Yorkshire Windows – Buying a Conservatory checklist

So you’ve made the decision that buying a conservatory would answer your space needs, add value to your home and enhance your enjoyment of your current property.

But the critical question remains, how will you know you’ve got all the details right, so that the end result meets all of your expectations?

Well, this checklist is here to help you ask all the essential questions when you meet the company’s representative, and ensure your conservatory becomes the stylish and elegant addition to your home that you want.

First question: What type of conservatory do you want? Your representative will be able to advise you on the right style for your home. You could chose from: Lean to, Edwardian, Victorian, Gable design, or P-Shape or T-shape bespoke designs, dependant upon your plot size, existing house and of course, budget…

Secondly: What style do you want to build your new conservatory, to be sure it suits your existing home? Again, your representative will be able to advise you on leaded light designs, Georgian window bar options, and frame colours to deliver the right style for you.

Next: What about all those different permissions and regulations you need to get? As the leading conservatory company in Yorkshire, we have installed many examples in many areas, and so know exactly what is required, where. We can advise and help you on these matters, and because we are professional, and our reputation matters to us, we are strong enough to give you unpalatable news if necessary. We can help you on obtaining Neighbours Consent, Planning Permission and Building Regulation approval when needed. And we know when it might be needed, so you don’t end up starring in a horror story …

What do you want the finished building to look like inside? Again, we can help you decide on the interior finishings for your conservatory, including blinds, fans, electrical points, vents and heating requirements. And our computer aided design system can present you with a visualisation of the room to let you be absolutely sure it looks as you wish.

How will you know the building is as secure as it can be? Yorkshire Windows is pleased to be able to offer a full range of security features for its conservatories, including espagnolette multi-point locking systems, toughened safety glass in accordance with BS6206, internally glazed windows, reinforced keeps, mushroom-headed throw bolts and stainless steel hinges, See your representative for details on why each of these is important.

Other important questions you should be considering before choosing one company to do your work include:

  • Does it offer a wide range of designs?
  • Do they offer a bespoke computerised design service?
  • Have they explained about internal temperature variations and their dependence upon position?
  • Have they explained how using different materials and ventilation techniques can be used to maintain a comfortable temperature all year round?
  • Have they shown you what it will look like, including what roofing system they will be using?
  • What sort of guarantee do they offer on their work?

If the answers to these questions are satisfactory, then you are likely to be dealing with a professional, reputable business. Their answers may also go a long way to explaining differences in quotes you have received. You should take the time to understand the answers and feel comfortable with them.
